Breaking News: Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Passes On at Ridge Hospital

Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the sad news of the passing of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady and wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings. She is reported to have passed away earlier today, Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a towering figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape — a trailblazer, a women’s rights advocate, and a pillar of courage who devoted much of her life to empowering women and children through the 31st December Women’s Movement. Her influence stretched far beyond politics, inspiring generations of Ghanaian women to rise and lead in their communities.

Born on November 17, 1948, Nana Konadu served as Ghana’s First Lady for two decades, during which she championed education, entrepreneurship, and family welfare. In 2016, she made history as the first woman to contest for the presidency of Ghana, marking a bold statement for women’s participation in national leadership.

Her passing marks the end of an era — the loss of a matriarch whose voice, passion, and service shaped Ghana’s democratic and social progress.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the nation, one thing remains clear: Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will forever be remembered for her strength, vision, and unyielding commitment to nation-building.

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. 🕊️
